HISTORY

LUCAS TERRIER

Ours is the original Lucas Terrier, whose blood lines stretch back without a break to the 1940's when the breed was established by Sir Jocelyn Lucas. He crossed a Norfolk Terrier with one of his own Ilmer Sealyham bitches.

Every living Lucas Terrier Club (LTC) registered Lucas Terrier in the UK is directly descended. It is this link, occasionally combined with either an LTC approved Norfolk or Sealyham (only) which makes the breed unique.

Today there are approximately 350 Lucas Terriers living in the UK. The Lucas Terrier is a very sought after and most lovable of dogs, and one which has gained the loyalty of owners throughout this country and overseas.

LUCAS TERRIER CLUB

The Club's overall vision is to promote and grow the Lucas Terrier breed in the UK. All registered Lucas Terrier's can trace their bloodline directly to Ilmer's kennels - which ensures the breed remains true.

We offer members support for breeding, three newsletters per year and invitation to member-only events.

All members are invited to attend the annual Lucas Terrier Show with an opportunity to win prizes for both breed and pet classes regardless of showing experience.

BREED STANDARD

The original Lucas Terrier breed was created by crossing a Norfolk Terrier and an Ilmer Sealyham Terrier. The result was, and is, an intelligent, willing and active dog with a delightful temperament. They are particularly good with young families, but are also very suitable for older owners.

CONSIDERING A LUCAS TERRIER?

Lucas Terriers are in great demand and only a small number of litters are produced every year. Litter sizes vary, but the average is three. There are no professional breeders dedicated to Lucas Terriers alone. Consequently, potential owners need to understand that it can be a long wait from joining the list to owning your own Lucas Terrier.

Once you complete the puppy seekers form found on our website, our puppy coordinator will be in touch. The wait is worth it and once you own a Lucas, you can join the club.
